I think I get the idea that things could get a little trying. I also work on the Railways and a particular trade union led by Mr Bob Crow has massive clout. Last September half of its 2000 members of the Metronet branch voted a for 72 hour strike on London Underground. That meant an average of 3 million Londoner's journeys into work per day were stuffed up by a mere 1000 people. That's clout and it member's (and admittedly non-members of said unions like myself) haven't done too badly out of it. The average train driver salary is £40k pa, signal operators £65-£70k pa etc and we're into the final year of a 3 year 5.1% deal of pay increases (national average is 2%).
