No, but I did get a feeling he was trying to have it both ways...sticking by his pastor while repudiating his outlandish sermons.
There was a lot of discussion today on a couple of stations including WMAU as to why the other candidates are not being called to account for off-the-wall statements their religious supporters make, e.g. McCain at Liberty and Fallwell's statement that US brought 9/11 on itself (for which he later apologized), etc. I think that's a stretch. We can't hold candidates
responsible for everything weird their supporters or friends say, but its worth a second look when it's coming from someone close like a pastor.
By now we ought to be satisfied that Obama isn't a Wright clone. He had his moment of painful explanation and did reasonably well. But he's still getting heavy and perhaps unfair heat for Wright's statements, and all the other candidates know it. But pouring gasoline on controversies like this, regardless of their logic, is a temptation few partisans can resist.
