Stop thinking in terms of countries and start thinking in terms of communities. A loner who acts arbitrarily in any community can, if they have the neccessary force to back up their actions, succeed in the short term but faces increased resistance by other members of the community who disaprove of their actions. This is the situation America now finds itself. As much as you'd apparently like to be an island, you are not. Your medium to long term future depends on the co-operation of other countries/people. If you continue to use force to change the community to your liking, you will only ever be able to use force, and the resistance to you will increase.
