I think in the 50's and 60's, a large number of Catholic men and women found partners though their relatives, almost like an arranged marriage.
Until the 21st century, Italians also had the same type of marriages, marrying off a girl to cement the family ties/bonds, which is also very similar to arranged marriages in India.
