He did something wrong and I have no regrets that I punished him. But to hold it against him from becoming an officer is draconian and I will fight such draconian laws even if it means I go against myself.

mensch! Having once been in the abject petitioner's shoes myself, I know how officialdom takes the most minor and ancient mis-step as the basis for screwing one over perpetually. It is always heartening to read of someone who steps across the lines to even the odds a slight bit.
