Yeah, the new thing about the oil shale is that the technology for extracting them has finally arrived thanks to Shell's research. The concept - heating an enormous underground area to 650 F while constructing a solid barrier around it by freezing the groundwater - is one of those series of consecutive miracles type approaches that one would never expect to work, but sometimes does, in technology.
