The actual Trans-Atlantic 'special relationship' does not assume much in the way of commonality, but it is rather driven by mutually beneficial sub-relations... sub-relations that usually make one thing common on one side and scarce on the other side. Incidentally, commonality in other matters just makes those essential sub-relations smoother.
