One thing I have definitely picked up from arrse.com and even the recruiters is that many branches and regiments of HM Armed Forces dislike most, if not all others. In particular there are volumes of posts portraying the Guards and Line Infantry as second fiddle to the Paras (TBH I don't see how you can compare parachute infantry to armoured infantry but I'm still a civilian), and a 1300+ post thread deriding the RAF Regiment. I guess this may be the flip-side of instilling such value in regimental identity; sure enough it ensures your troops will be proud of their unit, but they also seem to view all their competitors as useless.
I suppose that's how it goes. I doubt the RAF would be spending their limited cash on the Gunners if they saw no value in keeping them, especially since they got stung for something like 7000 redundancies not long ago.
