I didn't say they were the same thing. I equated their level of relevence. They are both primary amendments to the founding document of our government and nation. They both are part of the section of the Constitution (i.e. the Bill of Rights) that guarantees protections
OF the people
FROM the government. And they are the first two of such.
In other words, they specify what the government
CANNOT DO.
In light of that, to this layman, there is simply no question to be asked in this case. The D.C. law is unreasonable regulation that crosses the line into infringement of a basic American right. It should be struck. The states and local governments still have recourse to reasonable regulation.
