I lived in Chita for most of my childhood. I remember walking around in -40C - i almost got frostbite after a couple of hours in the cold - i didnt cover up adequately. Check out how close chita is to china. I noticed that americans tend to tighten up when its cold around here in MA. Ive been always taught to just stay active so it didnt really bother us. Plus the clothes that we have really do their job well.
I think that in a conventional fight, china as any country will fail in a land invasion. If you attack into russia, you will be making a very long reach to your strategic targets. It doesnt matter how advanced you are, but if you have to rely on road delivered supply on a massive scale, you can be eviscerated along the way. The elite russian units still get ridiculous training - especially paratroopers, easily on par with U.S. special forces. People in russian special forces are proudly serving their country, so draft isnt an issue. They also get to field the best arms russia can offer...
