Elizabeth Rubin has done a massive piece on the exact same unit and troops of B Company 2-503rd Infantry (Airborne), 173rd Inf. Bde. (Airborne) recently featured by Sebastian Junger in VANITY FAIR.

This is an eleven page article that further elaborates on this incredilbe A.O. (area of operation). Much of Adux's ABC LiveLeak footage is also specifically of elements from this company, primarily 2nd Platoon.

B Company In The Korengal-NYT

Note the accounting of a javelin attack upon a mansion from which they were receiving heavy fire, wounding one and killing another N.C.O. ABC attributes this to an Apache attack. The C.O. of B Company says it was his order to use javelin that killed a child and woman.

EDIT: I think I'm confused and that there are separate incidents involving civilians w/this company. The N.C.O.s, after reading the NYT story were hit (one killed) along w/a wounded corporal when their ambush team was, in turn, ambushed.

Sorry, but dis-orientation of poster aside, these guys are in the ultimate light-infantry mix-up. It's a stand-up fight with taliban, serious A.Q., and wahabbist pashtus that would easily HATE us just for kicks and giggles anyway.

PRTs and nice-nice down in the near-by valleys. Up in dem dar hills it's really the heart of darkness like nowhere else on earth.
