The idea that a huge ship like a Kirov would sink like a rock after being hit by one little Harpoon but somehow an Iowa could shrug off a dozen + Granit's was always an example of the Chimpanzee part of the brain at work.
In addition to a few combat firings there have been perhaps several dozen SINKEX's done where Harpoon was employed. Photo's of the results are not hard to come by and demonstrate the limitations of that weapon. Same with the similar Exocet. Perhaps several hundred Exocet have now been fired in combat but the number of ships lost was very few. Even HMS Sheffield should have survived her attack and was indeed finally sunk by the weather almost a week later. USS Stark survived her two hits and steamed back to port under her own power for repairs.
