In my opinion, McCain did well. I did like what Romney said about the environment and how by incorporating fees on the US alone would be unfair and open the door for even more companies to go overseas to a place like China where they have no Emissions standards. I am not a supporter of Romney, but that is the straight up truth. Huckabee did well in the debate and even Ron Paul had a good insight on the economy.
Romney is correct. Why should Americans have to pay for all kinds of carbon credits, resulting in further increased energy costs?
Power Plant environmental controls that we have here surpass that of any other nation. That whole carbon cap/credit thing is ridiculous. 40+ Billion dollars has been invested over the past 25 years in FGD, Fabric Filters, SCR, High Efficiency ESP's, NOx reduction, and many other systems. The result in many areas is an increased cost of electricity at around 10%.
Instead of having the carbon credit b/s, companies that have these systems (which most of them do mid you) should receive tax incentives that are to be used for the further development of effective environmental controls which have already been instituted.
The result would be far better than taxing the hell out of the companies with no result other than American citizens being hurt in the pockets due to a stupid tax. Companies would have to spend more dollars to buying these carbon credits than improving their environmental controls.
