It's a 1991.
The label reads:
"the vanilla honeyed spiciness of a number of traditional whisky casks of The Balvenie distilled in nineteen ninety one meant that they were considered perfect by The Balvenie Malt Master for further maturation in Port casks to create a single malt that is rich, fruity and long in finish.
Then it lists the casks and what they do, then:
Maturation:
American Oak
Portugese Oak
Limited Release bottled in 2005.
It is a 40%.
Best part, it was a gift. The tradition at the gunnery school is that when you teach a Platoon Leader's course, if they think you were a decent instructor, they take you out at the end of the course and try to drink you under the table, unsuccessfully....Then they present you with a bottle of decent spirits.
I am saving this one for after Iraq.
If anyone is heading up to Royal Mile Whiskys, I would love to try a vintage cask 1968, or 21 year old Port Wood. I could tolerate a Single Barrel or a Founder's Reserve....
