That may be the problem, in NZ at least it means poor quality.
As for the bulbs, I'd definitely recommend them except for reading. As a consequence I've also got 12v halogens for strategic spotlights in the living rooms and bedrooms, and of course the kitchen is 240v halogens throughout.
While staying away from the compulsion debate, incandescents truly suck technology wise.
