In the Turkish experience against the fight against PKK, we have observed the following about the BTR-60 and BTR-80 vs. HMGs.
1 - They are vulnerable to fire from KPV,DShK and NSV series heavy machine guns at a range of 7-800 meters or less. Much to our regret, we have learned that frontal penetrations are possible at these ranges. Sandbags solve this problem adequately.
2 - The BTR series have shown themselves to be completely resistant to AK-47/74 and G-3 series. Perhaps at a range of 20-30 meters there may be a change for penetrations, however that would be hard to achieve because of the employment method of these platformes by Turkish Armed Forces and the existence of "malicious infantry men with rifles"
