Thanks. It was a good read. Ton of questions but I'll defer to the infantry and engineers to comment. One point- nowhere did I see artillery smoke while trying to disengage from the schoolhouse back across the river. Artillery and air strikes were being called. It mentions Sprague doing so. Were they afraid HC smoke at the school would catch the dope fields on fire?

Seriously. If so, it would have complicated the withdrawal to have your egress route on fire behind you.

It's the only rationale for not smoking vic. the schoolhouse ASAP that I can imagine. Hell, bad enough and under armor, I might have called for W.P. just to obtain a rapid buildup. I'd be interested to read what any of our infantry types might write.

Dunno. It wasn't a fun couple of days for C Company though. That's for sure.
