Yup, the bad boy of American dog breeds was once a national hero, and a real hero as well.
Meet Sgt. Stubby, he captured a spy, alerted his unit of a gas attack, comforted the wounded, was wounded in battle himself and even given medals by the men. He went on to meet three US Presidents and was a life time member of the YMCA and American Legion. His stuffed body is now property of the Smithsonian after being on display a tthe head Quarters of the American Red Cross for decades.
