If there are only 2 countries in this fight, China may be able to blockade Taiwan. At least engage in a war of attrition. However, the world relies on China's cheap manufacturing capacity and Taiwan's high tech industry. The world will not sit by when China attacks Taiwan.

I even question whether China could effectively put a naval blockade on Taiwan. The Taiwanese Navy is more than capable of coming out and giving the Chinese a fight. The Taiwanese have a very real weakness in submarines, but their surface fleet is not inferior to what the PLAN could put together for a blockade. I suspect that the Taiwanese are probably better trained too.
