Some people should not be allowed to own a gun for various reasons, background, health, location amongst others. also ownership of a gun brings responsibility, so if a gun is used unlawfully, the registered owner should be responsible. Yes use a gun for self-protection but only when the situation justifies it. Simply shooting someone because they scared you or threatened you is overkill, pardon the pun.
Our 2nd Amendment basically says every adult citizen has the right to own one, until he demonstrates otherwise. It is a right, not an earned priviledge.

Never. But there are incidences where guns are restricted and psychopaths bring a bucket of acid to splash on kids in school. Some kids are permanantly disfigured as a result.

Very good in theory. However I don't have the money to afford personal police protection. Do you? And we can't make gangs illegal. It's against the constitution. Right above the 2nd Amendment is the 1st Amendment, which states the right of people to peaceably assemble shall not be infringed.

The 2nd Amendment is not to protect this country from foreign invaders or to protect you and I from gangs. It is to protect us from our own government. It's a very weird concept, but it's also a very important concept. Our founding fathers trusted the citizenry over the government. All government will inevitably become corrupt and oppressive. An armed citizenry is here to make sure we can change the government when we have to.
