I must first say I am not anti-gun but I do believe that not everybody has the right to own one. I am no expert on the Constitution or the 2nd Amendment but it was written when there was a need for a militia to defend the Nation.
Some people should not be allowed to own a gun for various reasons, background, health, location amongst others. also ownership of a gun brings responsibility, so if a gun is used unlawfully, the registered owner should be responsible. Yes use a gun for self-protection but only when the situation justifies it. Simply shooting someone because they scared you or threatened you is overkill, pardon the pun.
It is often said, guns don't kill people, people kill people. When was the last time you heard of someone walking into a school with a baseball bat and kill dozens of people.
A gun fro protection, fine, but where are the Police. Shouldn't more effort be put into policing areas than turning them into free fire zones. If there is gang trouble, crush the gangs using all assets, local, state and federal. Make gangs illegal!
The 2nd Amendment allows those who shouldn't be able to obtain fire arms. All owners should be registered and proper background checks made before a license is issued. If the owner is not responsible he loses the right and his license. It seems based on documentation and oversight, that car ownership is seen as more dangerous than an 18 year old with an assault rifle.
