Sadly, the Genie cannot be put back in the bottle, any more than we can turn the clock back. After the end of the Cold War, and then with the reduction of nuclear weapons I was hoping the world could build on that and further decrease the number of these infernal devices to an absolute minimum - like no more than 5 per country, with continual checks by a multinational commission. Fat chance! The more countries that gain these weapons the more parlous our condition becomes, NOT more secure. One day the human race may grow up sufficiently to get rid of every last one. Maybe.
