Defeating terrorism

it i fairly straightforward to defeat terrorism as long as you are willing to kill innocent bystanders compromise civil rights etc. Just ask the Zimbabwe, Sudanese or North Korean governments how they would deal with terrorists the same sort of strategies countries would have used a thousand years ago.

The problem is that most modern countries want to appear reasonably humane and 'nice' to the rest of the world. that means that they can't just break out the chemical weapons.

What countries like Israel and the US tend to end up doing nowadays is hurting the terrorists just enough to make them angry but not enough to win. The one good side if that it does seem to prevent those terrorists from succeeding in too many homeland attacks, but it isn’t a long term solution because that will only resolve when one either seeks a non military solution or when one applies with complete ruthlessness the military solution on offer.
