All the way up to Vietnam, many simply bled out from lack of proper care or immediate care. A soldier today can sustain much more serious wounds and survive than in previous wars.

Not to mention that a lot less of those soldiers are getting severly wounded in the chest and vital organs because of advances in body armor.
