I don't imagine this is much of a problem. Remember these are 13 reserve operators. There is so many thousands out there, that their number pales in comparison. Refuseniks are not treated well in most of Israeli society, and amen to that. This is exactly what it was, a bunch of self-righteous *******s. They didn't write their letter as private individuals, as far as I understood, but as military professionals. And they shamed their parent unit as a result.

If someone feels they are doing something wrong they are entitled to feel that way. They wrote their letter as military professionals because that's what ther are. If they don't like the fact that they have to sheild towns in land that Isreal forcefully took can you blame them?
Maybe if Isreal didn't have mandatory service they wouldn't have this issue but the fact remains that they do and these are just the onces that have the balls to say they don't like what they are doing. I can assure you that there are far more people that dislike what they are doing but as you said "Refuseniks are not treated well in most of Israeli society", seems to be fear that is keeping their mouths shut.
I agree that Isreal should stand up for itself but at times they can be a little heavy handed granted I can understand why but it doesn't mean they all have to like it.
Just my two cents.
