Just to keep the records straight, I never get into these threads where there is any debate about which tank is the best in the world or which army is the best in the world and such like since comparisons can never be done, the imponderables being many.
"Far superior" is the opinion held at that time by the Indian tankmen after their encounter with the Pattons in Kutch. Assal Uttar told a different story! It is merely a matter of opinion but when one encounters the smug glibness as "I have never heard anyone, anyone militarily knowledgeable that is, claim the Patton series of tanks to be "far superior" to the Centurion", one does find reason to react. Or when someone tries to awe by dishing out standard procedures or mode of training as something that is 'tara fickling' (stars twinkling in all its splendour!) and expect people to swoon in wonderment! Hardly worth a cause to swoon.
In so far as Dave Lukins being a great gunner, I have no doubt about that! To get the first round on target is no mean task! Three rounds are normally allocated in our Army to be on target! Therefore, by Indian standards, Dave is a excellent gunner!
