To start i would like to say im not a military proffessional nor do i have much knowledge in aviation sector... im just a civilian who wants to learn.. so pls bare with the questions..

Firstly Im aware of the fact that india has placed large orders for the Su-30 MKI ... but my question is why did the Inaf not consider the 35,37 variants .. or if they did consider them why did they opt for the su-30s? and in your view would you say this was a smart decision? or if u dont think it was wise what would you have done?

secondly which aircraft is india leaning towards buying in regards to the ~200 medium fighter jets. I know the the air show had many contenders, but which aircrafts are in real contention?

Thirdly ~250 su-30
~200 Medium fighter jets
~250 HAL tejas LCA
Now that is a total of ~700 fighter jets that will be completed by 2015.

So my third question is in your opinion how many fighter jets/ squadrons will India need too become a dominant air force? to protect its own air space and also to assert itself in south asia/ middle east.

( im leaving US out on purpose because the US has had a head start on the 5th gen fighters and they are light years ahead enuff said right there)
