In the same vein here are a number of my most favorite historical RN sites. Note one is no longer available except for what has been saved by a web crawler.
The reason for this is I finally found a way to extract info from one of my old "dead" harddrives.
And with there being 13 RN cuisers in-commission in 1952 and the USN only having 13 in-commission on July 1, 1950. I wondered what the RN looked like in 1950.
Well... The RN had 18 cruisers in-commission on July, 1 1950 maybe 19.
Unlike the USN they were all light cruisers but this was understandable as the USN Heavy cruisers were far, far newer than any the RN had built.
Fifteen 6" gunned and three(maybe four) 5.25" gunned AA warships were in-commission.:
Southampton Class(Some call them the Town Class )
Birmingham
Sheffield
Glasgow
Newcastle
Gloucester Class
Liverpool
Edinburgh Class
Belfast
Fiji Class (Colony)
Bermuda
Gambia
Jamaica
Kenya
Mauritious
Nigeria
Ceylon Class
Ceylon
Swiftsure Class
Swiftsure
Superb
All of the above were or were variations of the first listed Southampton "Treaty" cruisers.
Dido Class
Phoebe
Euralys
Cleopatra
Maybe:
Bellona Class
Diadem (Paid-Off in 1950 but dont I have exact date.)
The linked sites along with the USN Naval Historical Center, Wikpedia and "google" of specific ships/ship classes gives quite a clear picture of the RN postwar.
Warning: There are conflicts when it comes to dates sometimes due to typos and unknown reasons. But Ive been able to reconcile all but one of my questions using the resources mentioned above and linked below.:
