Here's where I'll have to disagree. Chinese in general are pretty skeptical about the civilian government. But that skepticism does not extend to the PLA, which continues to enjoy a high degree of public approval. Even in the wealthy provinces, PLA slots are highly sought after, as they are viewed as pathways to to wealth and prestige (as defenders of the ancestral lands).
