Killebrew Hits A Homer
About time. There are a myriad of conceptual and institutional impediments to the colonel's proposals. Still, it's impossible to argue against the base evidence of combat. Funny enough, many of us have identified and discussed these issues for some time. Colonel Killebrew's article is provocative food for thought when linking his arguments to the emerging threats to America's national security.
Killebrew's examples of Iraq and Afghanistan succinctly illustrate the failure of our senior civil/military leadership to identify our strategic objectives. They collectively failed to find, and then keep their eyes on the ball. One can see why when considering the blithe and casual mis-use of key concepts that arose from our doctrinal revisions of the late 70s and early 80s.
Shek, thanks for the article. There's much room for discussion here. In many ways the article summarizes a litany of issues that are, sadly, only a part of the greater mosaic of problems behind our continuing failure in Afghanistan and Iraq. Worse than these failures, the article suggests that more of the same might be expected.
