OSCOW. July 16 (Interfax-AVN) - Ninety-two aircraft will take part
in the Peace Mission 2007 exercises of the Shanghai Cooperation
Organization (SCO) scheduled to take place in the Chelyabinsk region in
August, Russian Air Force Commander Col. Gen. Alexander Zelin told
Interfax-AVN.
"Six Ilyushin Il-76s, nine Sukhoi Su-25s, 13 Mil Mi-24s and 18 Mil
Mi-8s will represent Russia in Peace Mission 2007," he said.
China will assign six military cargo planes, eight JH-7As, and 16
helicopters, JG-9W and Mil Mi-17s. A woman will pilot one of the Chinese
Ilyushin Il-76.
"The aircraft will take part in seven drills, including
reconnaissance, fire support, landing and shooting at enemy forces,"
Zelin said.
The Il-76 planes will transport more than 20 vehicles and over 200
paratroopers.
Chinese aircraft will start landing at Shagol and Uprun airfields
on July 27-28, he said.
