Today's ambush on Fatah forces will turn into at least a week of heavy fighting between the two. I expect some large scale kidnappings, assasinations, and street battles.
Hamas is larger in number but Fatah are more disciplined and have more capable fighters. However in Gaza, Hamas rules all. Remember that clan comes first usually. The clan is the basic unit of allegiance among Arabic people. In Gaza the Dagmoush clan is the largest and most powerful. They number probably 15,000 and have 2,000 fighters alone. They are family based which means that everyone is related somehow. I have 9 brothers and sisters, 30 aunts and uncles, and 45+ cousins (lost count).
What makes this conflict in Gaza a revolution of the traditional Arabic clan is that you have brother fighting brother. Did anyone see the peace of two wounded brothers lying in their beds being treated by their mother? One was a Fatah soldier who got wounded in a battle with Hamas, the other a Hamas fighter wounded in the same battle. Usually the clan will go one way or the other. Like my clan votes only Likud in Israel. There are no exceptions except some voted Kadima in honor of Ariel Sharon but that was a one time thing obviously.
