The availability of the F-22 for sale outside the USA is a hot topic in Australia, which has signed up as a JSF partner. There has been strong lobbying in Australia, from organisations like
Air Power Australia for the RAAF to buy the F-22 instead of the F-35 and the Opposition Defence Spokesman has also indicated support for this proposal. The RAAF has stated categorically that whilst it acknowledges that the F-22 is the world's premier air superiority fighter, it wants the more versatile and cheaper F-35 and the government has followed the air force's advice. The Australian Defence Minister has also received a letter from the US Deputy Defence Secretary, Gordon England, stating that the F-22 would not be made available for foreign military sales and he has stated repeatedly that the RAAF is unable to consider the F-22 for that reason.

Any agreement to sell the Raptor to Israel would certainly be viewed with interest in Australia, if not by the RAAF, then certainly by the pro F-22 lobby groups..
