Oh for Pete sakes. There will be NO Chinese nuke strikes on Taiwan. Mainly because the military, more specifically the 2nd Artillery Force, doesn't control the nukes. The nukes are controlled and maintained by the Central Military Commission, a civilian authority.
Chinese nukes are NOT standing ready with the delivery vehicles. They have to be installed and ready ONLY AFTER the CMC releases them.
While you may think this is just a formality, in practice the 2AF has been so frustrated in civilian control that they've abandoned nukes as a 1st strike option. The civilians would not even acknowledge that they have keys during exercises. Instead, the 2AF has went to salvo route - 5 to 6 conventional warheads to replace one nuke in their 1st strike options.
