I adore D.C. . It may well be the stentch of money and power.

I'm not quite sure that it qualifies as "beautiful". Impressive, yes.

I cannot help but think of St. Petersberg as a Stockholm wannabee.

In the UK I really should have mentioned the centre of York and without reservation Cambridge. Edinburgh is quite dramatic but not beautiful. I would say the same of NYC. San Francisco is charming, but again ...

I must wear out indulgence by adding Madrid and Monaco. I'm not sure if the latter gets extra kudos due to the inhabitants being simultaneously beautiful and ugly.
