I have not understood Blair's logic.
I presume whatever he is saying is to avoid looking like a loser when he was such a staunch ally, personally, of Bush! The British public was not for the War and so now to agree that things are not shaping up would be personally disastrously embarrassing for him.
The other reason could be is that withdrawing from Iraq, he could at a slightly later date, push them into Afghanistan where things are making relative progress.
Who knows?
