John- The Amphicar engine was from the Triumph Herald. As you can tell, it was rear-engined. The tranny was German, very similar to a VW bug. They had nylon propellers, and the front wheels acted as the rudder in the water.

There was one in Sitka when I was a kid, I have always thought they were neat, but they were fairly maintenance intensive- door seals, Lucas electrical system, etc.

I got a few pics as he was going by. He was cruising along pretty good!
