My friend who served in Iraq wasn't a US citizen, and joined US military (Army I think) and after serving 4 years he got a citizenship. Not sure how he went through, but it definitely wasn't a hassle and serving in the military helped him big time in getting the citizenship. Maybe Army helps you since your loyal to them and stuff, etc.?? Don't know.

Getting a green card was a hassle for me, they screwed up on applications many times, or things got lost, ugh.

Yea but you can kiss your green card or citizenship goodbye without a SSN.
