Somalia airstrike

The United States have launched at least two airstrikes against suspected terrorists in Somalia, thought to have been behind attacks on American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania eight years ago.

An American air force AC-130 gunship conducted the strike, which targeted the senior Al Qaeda leader in east Africa, and an operative of the organisation wanted for his involvement in the 1998 bombings.

The aircraft, flew from its base in Djibouti to Ras Kamboni in southern Somalia for the attack.

The Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf said that the US was right to launch the airstrikes.

'The U.S. has a right to bombard terrorist suspects who attacked its embassies in Kenya and Tanzania,' he said.

Meanwhile, the US military said it had sent an aircraft carrier to join three other US warships conducting anti-terror operations off Somalia's coast.
