CCP didn't do much to help China when they practiced a command economy. China's rise is thanks to CCP's careful control of limited capitalism. So in essence, capitalism did more to help China.

Here's the problem facing CCP. Capitalism will raise living standards of the people. With more stuff, people will demand more freedom. Freedom brings democracy. It's inevitable.
