Ever notice how Governments tend to just do what they think is best regardless of public opinion and are often able to surpress public attention to the fact, or in the case of many, they simply ignore it.

Expediency is all.

The fact that the Howard Government keeps getting elected here on their promises of keeping 'australian values' and all that cliche bullcrap while they take more immigrants than ever (and they want more) says something about how seriously politicians take public concerns unless they have a fully contested election coming up.
