"Break Hizbollah"? Fine. How? To do that they need to occupy the whole country, Hizbollah is a gurellia entity, can't be destroyed from a far. And where exactly will they find the troops, to occupy Lebanon? Back in 1982, Sharon used the Christian thugs as an auxillery on the ground. They don't exist anymore.

I don't know why you say they were evac'ed for nothing. I can see the point quite clearly.
The fact they had to be evacuated at all. Going in with a whole division was probably the cause of all those Qassams and Katyushas being fired (from the Leb) in the first place was it not? If Olmert come back sans the two soldiers and with Hizb strenghtened, then certainly the evacuations would have been for nothing.

Well, we'll see how it plays out, but I don't think the Israeli leadership is as strategically retarded as you do. I believe YOU may be missing it; I can see the rationale clearly.
Well lets see. Syria gets involved, then thats a war on three fronts. Add to that, a long war on three fronts, not the short sharp conflicts that Israel fights so well. And if you remember a long war on multiple fronts was exactly what traditionally Israeli thinking has sought to avoid.

As for being strategically "retarded", well Sharon in 1982 went all the way to Beruit against the advice of the General Staff (nor I might add telling Cabinat). Looks like Olmert has doen the same.
