1. You need to understand the difference between a “representative government” and a pure democracy. You will aswer your question when you understand those two concepts.
2. I know what you are getting get, but the answer is not that simply. Prez Chen spent way too much time in politic and nothing gets done, for an example, you can research on the nuclear power plant crisis. Chen does not know how to reach out to legislature branch of the government, having Premier Chang to cancel a law just pasted by legislature is not a smart PR move. Just because KMT did it before, that does not mean Chen can do it. KMT did it because they control both the legislature and the presidency. Like I say, he is a good politician and used his political capital to force his agenda thought during his first two years. However, his hardline approach in domestic alienated many some of the undecided voters when it came to the 2006 election. In short, after 2004, he really had nothing to show for in his domestic front. As he was too busy fighting for TI. Most of the day-to-day ops were in the hands of Premier anyways.
3. School uniform makes better student? Not going to touch this one.
4. I see what you are getting at. Yes, Korean Soap Oprea is very popular in TW (and in China for that matter, Jiang ZM loves that sh!t. many youth Taiwanese is interested in knowing more about Korea culture but they are as strong as that of Japanese culture, Hello kitty dolls are every where, I mean everywhere.
5. they want both!! Well, 70 to 80 percent wants status quote and they are recalling Chen, what do you think?
6. Does it matter? if you really want an aswer, not before 2008. 2010? maybe, but, does it really matter.?
7. IMHO, very close to Fujian and Shanghai. VERY close. Then again, Cantonese and Fujianese never see eye to eye. Be careful, be very careful when you ask me about culture, because I view culture with a capitalized K. The German concept of “Kulture” is very different from that of English one. I think you are asking about “national identity/Kulture” instead of culture.
