This article does outline the gradual decline of the American "Empire" (j/k I mean supremacy), but the example of England that it started off with is wrong. Americans are just the transitioned British Empire in itself.
If a historical model is to be followed the decline of America would probably follow a greek model. If current trends intensify over the next 30-50 years then I'm guessing it'll be an Athens like decline.
Perhaps a commerce and trade version of the Peloponnesian Wars would ensue. In that case Russia would probably be Persia and China can be equated to Sparta.
