How much more of a pounding can the Shia's take?
Fatal bomb attacks hit Karbala, Baghdad

Baghdad, May 7 (DPA) At least 30 people were killed and dozens more injured in Iraq Sunday by separate bomb attacks in the Shia holy city of Karbala and in the country's capital Baghdad, reports and eyewitnesses said.
The Karbala blast occurred early morning when a suicide bomber driving an explosives-laden car rammed into an Iraqi army checkpoint near the city hall, killing at least 20 people and injuring 55 others, eyewitnesses said.
The explosion took place as dozens of cars were stopped for standard inspection on their way to the centre of the city, the witnesses said.
Karbala, located around 110 km south of Baghdad, is home to two of the holiest shrines of Shias and has seen sectarian and insurgent violence in the past.
Meanwhile in Baghdad nine people were killed and 15 others injured when a bomb planted on a bus detonated in al-Dalal square in the al-Adhamiya district. The explosion took place near one of the palaces of toppled leader Saddam Hussein that is currently used as a base by the US army.
Also in the Iraqi capital Sunday, one employee of the al-Sabah newspaper was killed and 13 others injured when a suicide car bomber targeted the daily's printing facility.
The powerful explosion caused damage to the print house building in al-Waziriyah district, a newspaper source said, adding however that the newspaper would still produce a full print run for Monday.
State-run daily al-Sabah, set up in 2003, has been operating in the offices of Babel newspaper that was run by Oday, Saddam's older son.
In a separate incident, an explosive-laden car detonated on the highway in al-Adl district west of Baghdad, causing damage to some cars. No casualties were reported.
State-run Iraqi television reported that Iraqi police found Sunday corpses of 43 civilians shot dead after they had been tortured.
Meanwhile, two suspected terrorists were killed Saturday near Tikrit when the roadside bomb they were attempting to plant detonated prematurely, a US military statement released Sunday said.

Almost every major Shia mosque has been struck by jehadis in Iraq. It is a shame that the US hasn't been able to use this inherent Shia opposition to the Sunni jehadism as an effective counter.
