Sure enough, the GOP is getting ready to pounce.

If the DON'T pounce, they should be sued class-action-style by every single registered Republican. Anything but an attempted kill-shot would be simple political malpractice.

On the contrary, think about the Damage and Tarnish it could do to the Gops standing. The line could be drawn that it was obvious for the GOP to claim that Obama is a misguided individual whoose was very affected by sermons from a morally flawed preacher. Can you imagine the anger that would cause in the black community that live amongst people with those views daily, and to insinuate that Obama is fundamentally weak and unable to quarantine those viewpoints form his own beleifs...

The next question is 'why don't you beleive him'...

Can you imagine the stigma that could actually be attached to the GOP for launching such an attack on a black man who has acheived a LOT so far...

Along with the rest of the world just waiting for the obvious Attack BS it's so used to from previous campaigns that it's watched in dismay.

I hope Mc Cain adopts the stance of A gentlemen, he'll win a lot more votes that way.

I agree. GOP should just sit back and watch the dems shoot themselves in the foot. Every once in a while, gently nudge the dems a bit just to make sure the aim is true.

McCain has basically said he will not say anything negative about Obama. In fact he is going so far as to ask his supporters to not say anything negative either, and thus he will probably disown any comments made by Limbaugh, Hanity, Ingraham, etc. to that effect.

Which is fine. Let him stay above the fray and let the soldiers soldier the campaign.

Does he actually write his speeches? Reagan did, and I think Kennedy did, too.

Here's a video of Ambassador Peck defending Hezbollah on Fox News. I don't now the date, but it seems to be within the last 2 years. Peck has a history of such activity, and it seems he's on Fox News quite often because of his controversial views.

Maybe back in the running for governor days. Once he became Prez, he had a lineup of heavy hitters writing for him.

Zackly. And I've heard the guy who wrote the "tear down this wall" speech interviewed a couple of times on radio - he's fun.

And don't forget Peggy Noonan.

She wrote Reagans D-Day 40th Anniversary "Boys of Pointe du Hoc" speech, and his speech after the Challenger explosion.

She is also the speech writer that coined the Phrases "Kinder gentler Nation"
and "Thousand points of light"

I remember an old SNL sketch with Carvey as Bush I and Lovett as Dukakis doing a debate. Moderator asks a question, Lovett/Dukakis gives a solid, and informed synoposis answer (the kind we all say we want from pols but really can't stand to hear). Moderator asks same of Carvey/Bush I and he says he sees "A thousand points of light". Lovett/Dukakis looks over disbelievingly and says "I can't believe I'm losing to this guy".
