Romney's timetables stance
The way I see it, McCain made a mistake saying that Romney supported a specific date for withdrawal from Iraq. However, I believe it's abundantly clear that Romney waited until it was politically advantageous to take a position on timetables, like everything else in his political career. I also believe it's quite obvious that Romney supported timetables for withdrawal from Iraq. Romney supported secret timetables.

I thought McCain performed the best -- obviously I'm a bit biased. Timetables came up, as expected, I've express my opinion on that matter in another thread. I thought McCain had a great quip to Romney's remark about his NYT endorsement -- McCain being endorsed by two conservative Massachusetts newspapers.
I must have missed this -- what the hell are they doing? Looks like a fistfight is about to break out. I'm sure it's a photo shot at an inopportune moment... |

McCain is essentially correct, he just handled it badly. All he needed to say was "Mitt Romney supported secret timetables for withdrawal from Iraq." It's also clear that Romney refused to take a position on the surge until he could gauge which way the wind was blowing, just as it was clear he refused to take a position on illegal immigration until three days before the expiration of this term as governor when he signed an executive order as a showpiece in preparation for the presidential nominee race. |

I think those debates would be more interestinf if the canditates would receive an eletric shock everytime they mention Reagen. I mean they are the ones running, not him. Give me a reason to vote for you (well ok, I am not American so I won't vote anyway but I think you get what I mean) based on your position and not because you won a Reagen-look-alike-contest.

A 'mistake', huh? It was no 'mistake'; it was a god-damned black scurrilous LIE, and for Mr. Integrity to conciously CHOOSE to sink to that depth just shows how much contempt he has for our collective intelligence.
Get this: he does NOT respect the conservative base, and he thinks we're a bunch of yobbos that will wave his flag whenever he farts the National Anthem. This is a direct insult to you, and me, and all us 'little people'. He's SO perfect to be a Democrat...he should've gone ahead and switched parties when they asked him to, as it would've clarified him in so many more peoples' eyes.

In my opinion, McCain did well. I did like what Romney said about the environment and how by incorporating fees on the US alone would be unfair and open the door for even more companies to go overseas to a place like China where they have no Emissions standards. I am not a supporter of Romney, but that is the straight up truth. Huckabee did well in the debate and even Ron Paul had a good insight on the economy.
Romney is correct. Why should Americans have to pay for all kinds of carbon credits, resulting in further increased energy costs? Power Plant environmental controls that we have here surpass that of any other nation. That whole carbon cap/credit thing is ridiculous. 40+ Billion dollars has been invested over the past 25 years in FGD, Fabric Filters, SCR, High Efficiency ESP's, NOx reduction, and many other systems. The result in many areas is an increased cost of electricity at around 10%. Instead of having the carbon credit b/s, companies that have these systems (which most of them do mid you) should receive tax incentives that are to be used for the further development of effective environmental controls which have already been instituted. The result would be far better than taxing the hell out of the companies with no result other than American citizens being hurt in the pockets due to a stupid tax. Companies would have to spend more dollars to buying these carbon credits than improving their environmental controls. |
