Hillary will take most of New England, California, Washington, Oregon, Illinois, and maybe a few more states. Those states have the liberals outnumber the conservatives 4 to 1 (hypothetically speaking). Where the conservatives in other states outnumber the liberals maybe 2 to 1. There are more liberals than conservatives. But they don't help because they like to congregate in giant cities in a few choice locations around the country. If we switch the system to direct voting, liberals are not guaranteed the white house either. People will realize they have direct influence on the election now. Conservatives who may not vote in CA before might now choose to vote because his vote means something. Then we have the 3rd party candidates who just might have a good chance of winning due to voter backlash. At least they can siphon off votes directly from the 2 main parties. Bottom line is the liberals may claim more heads, but their distribution is poor.

The main problem that Hillary faces is that she is female and running for US president. Lets not dance around this people, she is female.
FEMALE! You know, like our mothers, or sisters. The problem is that HUGE, and i am gonna type that again because i like capitals, HUGE, number of voters in the US can't see past that. Absolutely there are problems with her policies, absolutely. But, todgers on the table on this one (stakes HRC just cannot compete with) , her policies would not be as bad if she could write her name in the snow. The US is just not yet mature enough for a female president. Just not gonna happen in '08. People backing her are just misreading the electorate. |

From what i understand a minority don't want it. But a majority want reform and she is offering a flavour of reform. However, as i said, think of the millions that won't like any policy because she is female (the same would happen to Condoleeza Rice or any Republican nominee). The whole structure of American Administration is little changed from the days when women were chattle. That macho atmosphere is slanted against a woman president. Every election the whole "war thing" turns up and bangs on for months - no US woman can compete with that. Even people with proper war records (and i am thinking of Bush Snr and Bush Jnr for his second term) have to stoop into that idiotic non-issue to justify their leadership credentials with irrelevancies. Currently US politics is sufficiently politically correct that the inherent sexism is kept neatly to other policies, but should Hillary get a nomination then the true colours will be shown. |
