I knew there had to be a reason why I'm conservative...old age.

I like Thompson, Ron Paul (breathe, people), Tancredo, Hunter, and Huckabee. I still like McCain, and would vote for him if need be, but his recent actions (amnesty first and foremost) have taken him off my a-list.

Thompson is like a beacon of hope on a mediocre field. But we still don't know much about him.

Ron Paul is a libertarian, and leans towards the right. Is for abolishing the income tax, the IRS, and for promoting small government. He was against the Iraq war, but because (this is my impression) he believed that it was not declared properly: basically he thought that it was one more example of the executive wielding too much authority.

Tom Tancredo is a more conservative version of Bush.

As is Duncan Hunter. But both of them are not very electable.

Huckabee is a more mild version of other conservatives -in manner, not in beliefs.

I personally don't understand the religious right's tendency toward voting. We don't have a lot of choices in a two-party system, and if people don't vote because someone's divorced, I'll be really pissed.

I'm not going to lie -- I support much of what Ron Paul advocates. I tend toward libertarianism myself, but I feel that his views are a bit too libertarian for me. I don't think he has a snowball's chance in hell at securing the nomination, and that his policies would never have the support of the majority of Americans, who, let's face it, are grouped around the center.

I like some libertarian concepts and ideas, but Ron Paul is pretty extreme, not to mention his naive stance on foreign policy. I just cannot support a candidate like that.

Thompson not on fire in Iowa...

Thompson is not stirring up the populace per expectations.

NEVADA, Iowa, Oct. 3 — Twenty-four minutes after he began speaking in a small restaurant the other day, Fred D. Thompson brought his remarks to a close with a nod of his head and an expression of thanks to Iowans for allowing him to “give my thoughts about some things.”

'Can I Have a Round of Applause?’

Then he stood face to face with a silent audience.

“Can I have a round of applause?” Mr. Thompson said, drawing a rustle of clapping and some laughter.

“Well, I had to drag that out of you,” he said.

Well, not on fire inside a small restaurant.

Rasmussen had a good little bit on who votes and decides GOP primaries.
Rasmussen Reports™: The most comprehensive public opinion coverage ever provided for a mid-term election.
Thompson actually has a really good chance of winning the primary.

I thought the same thing, but then I asked myself, why would the NYTimes do a story based on one gathering in a restarurant. I've read that Thompson is a slow starter who gropes for what works and then roars on. Maybe we're seeing him in that phase...

Or it could be the NYTimes doing a story on a politician they have no interest in seeing get elected. I would be shocked to see a positive, or even unbiased, article on a true conservative from the NYTimes.

Really? I'd be shocked to find an unbiased article in the Times on anything period.
