I suppose you are referring to their leader's suggestion to "wipe Israel off the map." That is simply rhetoric, not necessarily a declaration of intent. Remember, Israel has nuclear weapons and arguably the best military in the region, as well as the support of the US. It would be suicidal for Iran to launch nuclear strikes when they would face severe retaliation from the rest of the world. I don't think we've come to the point (and hope we never will) where nuclear weapons are intended for tactical use. Even when we dropped bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the intent was not to destroy Japan's military capability, but to force them into unconditional surrender. In other words, it was a bargaining tool.

The US does not have the military capability to invade Iran, so we'll just have to see how the sanctions work out.
